Kamel McCray felt the pull to be a musician at an early age, being inspired by the rhythmic syncopation and counterpoint found in the interplay between the gospel musicians he watched at his grandfather's church. Eventually he was taken under the wing of one Victor Ross, and thus began his informal percussion training, quickly pairing that with formal training at The School for Creative & Performing Arts in Cincinnati, OH.
As the years went by, Kamel's talent evolved when he realized he had the "ear" to be able to hear all the various instrumental parts to his piano pieces. And so began his exploration into arranging/producing complete songs. Being influenced from almost every musical genre, Kamel's music is not the "cookie cutter" sound mass produced in the mainstream, even though he is capable of doing that. He has worked with everyone from Cash Money Records (notable was JAX), to Stevie Brock, Dayah Modo (co-produced single Pink Sea), Harold Fisher (world-class bassist of Tchukon), DJ Moore (Ludacris, Snoop Dog, Bootsie Collins) and everyone in between. Kamel has also had music licensed with Red Bull through his collaboration with The Mighty Zulu Kingz (these Funk tracks have been played at breakin' competitions all over the world).
Kamel's goal is to create a musical journey, a soundscape that has the power to evoke feelings and emotions to take you into the hidden recesses of your heart and mind. Enjoy the ride.
